Ananuri fortress is situated on Georgian Military Highway in 70 km from Tbilisi. These combined fortress and church were founded in the 16th century as a fortress. As in many other places in Georgia, Ananuri is another example of how the Georgians picked amazing locations for their fortresses and churches. Always on top of hills, always lookouts and on photogenic locations for the present day visitor.
We passed Ananuri every time heading to Gudauri and Kazbegi. We enjoyed its beauty in every season. As for me it's the most beautiful in autumn. But these pictures were taken this winter when we traveled to Kazbegi.
Крепость Ананури расположена на Грузинской Военной Дороге в 70 км от Тбилиси. Ананури представляет собой комплекс крепости с церковью, построенные в 16 ст. Ананури является отличным примером того, как грузины удачно выбирали месторасположения для своих крепостей и церквей. Всегда на вершине холма, всегда с отлычными видами – просто находка для современного туриста (фотолюбителя).
Каждый раз по дороге в Казбеги/Гудаури мы проезжали Ананури. Мы видели эту крепость во все сезоны. Для меня она особенно красивая осенью, но фотографировали мы её зимой, когда мы направлялись в Казбеги.

The fortress overlooks the Zhinvali reservoir, which provides Tbilisi with drinking and utility water. The views of the reservoir and surrounding mountains are spectacular.
Из крепости открывается замечательная панорама на Жинвальское водохранилище - являющегося одним из крупнейших водных резервуаров в Грузии.

Entrance to the fortress is free.
One more thing: there is a small souvenirs market near Ananuri fortress. But I do not recommend buying there anything as prices are really high. You could easily find much better prices in Tbilisi souvenir shops:) Good luck!

И еще: возле крепости Ананури располагается небольшой рынок сувениров, которые я не советую приобретать, так как цены там слишком туристические. В Тбилиси вы с легкостью найдете больше выбор по лучшим ценам в любом сувенирном магазинчике. Удачных покупок!
