Hello all! Today I will tell you about one of few decent places to dine in Signaghi - Pheasant Tears.
Привет всем! Сегодняшний пост об одном из немногих мест, где можно перекусить в Сигнаги.
Pheasant's Tears is quite an interesting place. It's not just a dine venue, as they have a wine cellar and grow all the vegetables served to their visitors. The owner of this place is an American.
It is very famous among expats in Georgia as well. All our friends highly recommended us this place. Most people come here for their wine tasting. But i have never seen it packed with people. Only 2-3 tables occupied. We'd been here twice and decided we would never come back.
Pheasant's Tears довольно интересное необычное место. По словам обслуживающего персонала они сами выращивают органические овощи, с которых готовят блюда, также тут гордятся своим древним винным погребом а также колекциями картин и антиквариата. Хозяин всего этого, к слову, американец.
Pheasant's Tears наиболее известно в кругу иностранцев. Практически все наши друзья в один голос советовали нам это место. Большинство приходят сюда на дегустацию вина. Но много народа здесь мы не видели никогда. Заняты всегда были 2-3 стола.
После нашего второго визита мы решили больше сюда не возвращаться.

The atmosphere of the place is nice. They have their own artistic setting and decor. Although I think that is not all you need to lure more clients.
Тут царит приятная атмосфера. Место очень оригинальное с художественным и оригинальным декором. Хотя, на мой взгляд, этого недостаточно для привлечения клиентов.
It is difficult for me to call this place a restaurant. Their kitchen and their stuff don't look professional at all. The funny part starts when you ask them a menu and they tell you they do not have one. The waiter explained us that they serve only food they already have cooked, so you are really limited in your choice (if you have one at all).
Thus when you order something you do not know the prices. And unfortunately their food IS overpriced.
And this is when you immediately get the feeling that you were an unwanted guest and you came unexpectedly for them.
Fortunately I should admit their food is not that bad. One of our friends told us he only eats there if Gia the cook is preparing the meal. (So make sure this guy is there:)
What surprised me most, was that they refuse to make a diplomatic discount, and the most astonishing thing was taking money for bread (3 GEL for 2 days old lavash) and for tap water (2 GEL for a jar that was on a table and was perceived as a vase or a decoration).
We have been living in Georgia for almost 2 years so far, and it was for the first time we were made to pay for a tap water.
But the owner is not Georgian (you may suppose). Not a single time during our 4 week holidays in the USA have we encountered something similar.
Рестораном это место назвать язык не поднимается. Ни их кухня, ни обслуживающий персонал не выглядят профессионально. Самое интересное началось, когда мы попросили меню, а нам ответили, что у них нет меню. Официант объяснил нам, что подают только те блюда, которые имеются в наличии в приготовленном виде. Выбора у вас, получается, нет.
Интересно также то, что заказывая блюдо вы понятия не имеете сколько оно стоит, а это место далеко не дешевое.
Вот именно в этот момент чувствуешь себя как будто незванным гостем, к приходу которого никто не готовился.
К счастью, еда у них достаточно вкусная. Один из наших друзей, правда, отметил, что кушает там только если главный повар Гия на месте. Поэтому, прежде чем убедитесь в его присутствии, лучше заказ не делать:)
Неприятно удивил их отказ снимать НДС (для дипломатов). Ну и самым интересным для нас было обнаружить в чеке 3 лари за черствый лаваш и 2 лари за кувшин с водой из крана (который мы почему-то не сговариваясь оба приняли то ли за вазу, то ли за декорирование стола).
Мы в Грузии живем вот уже практически 2 года, и мы впервые столкнулись с водой в чеке:(
Кто-то скажет, что ведь хозяин не грузин... Но во время нашего 4-х недельного пребывания в США, мы тоже ни разу не платили за воду:)
There are also two extra rooms: one with owner's pictures collection and the second one with Georgian antiques.
В двух смежных помещениях расположены коллекция картин и антиквариата хозяина заведения.
If you are cold there are two tables next to a real fireplace.
Если вы приедете сюда зимой, вас согреет настоящий камин, возле которого расположено только 2 столика.
After having a meal guests are allowed to have a look at their small wine cellar.
После трапезы гостям рады показать свой крохотный, но по словам работников, старинный винный погреб.

When it's warm, guests may sit outside, I guess. However the garden doesn't look really taken care of.
В теплое время года можно сидеть в саду, который ухоженным, тем не менее, не выглядел.

So it's up to you whether you want to visit this 'restaurant' or not. I never recommend it to anybody, but I also don't know any other place to eat in Signaghi.
