Eden Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa

by Olesia June 26 2013, 23:28 travel Kenya Mombasa

Hello! This post is about our stay in Eden Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa.

Mombasa is the second-largest city in Kenya, with a population of over one million and, maybe one of the most well known cities of the Eastern Africa. Located on the east coast of Kenya, in Coast Province, Mombasa's bordering the Indian Ocean made it a historical trading center, and it has been controlled by many countries because of its strategic location. Now it is a regional cultural and economic center, Mombasa has a large port and an international airport, and is an important regional tourism center.

Mombasa has been in our must-visit list since we arrived in Kenya. So as soon as we got a chance going to Mombasa we started looking for a place to stay there.

We had absolutely no preferences and asked for no advices, but we were sure that this stay had to be special and very romantic. Thus we did not want to book any big-chain hotels with great number of tourists strolling around. Such hotels always attract a lot of local sellers who are very hard to get rid of.

By chance we found on the internet Eden Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa.

We liked photos on their site a lot and decided to stay one night there before heading to Diani beach, which was our next destination after Mombasa. The description of the resort promised a lot in terms of location, accommodation and leisure.

Eden Beach Resort & Spa are luxuriously designed Holiday Homes with hotel amenities. The homes are strategically located in the serene environment of the North Coast in Mombasa, at the famous Shanzu beach along the Indian Ocean. Eden is located in the same beach-line as Serena Beach Hotel, Continental Hotel and the African Safari Club Hotels.

Eden Beach Resort & Spa is approximately 30 minutes drive from Moi International Airport Mombasa and approximately 20 minutes drive from Mombasa Central Business Center and 10 minutes drive from the famous Nakumatt-Nyali shopping center along Mombasa - Malindi highway.

After we saw photos of the Resort on the site we were sure that i was very beautiful, but when we arrived there what we saw amazed us.

Eden Resort has amazingly beautiful architecture design, both inside and outside. This place reminded me about Middle Eastern and Gulf style architecture.

It has a great number of parking spots for guests and it is conveniently situated so that main common areas and all apartments are sea-facing with large balconies and great sea views.

Even halls were beautiful and spacious...

We had 2 bed roomed penthouse which far exceeded my expectations! The kitchen was huge and well equipped. The living room with flat screen TV was very spacious, light and comfortable. All well decorated and spotlessly clean. There are two air-conditioning units, one it the living/dining area and one in the bedroom.

The bedroom way huge! It had a king size bed, desk, ironing board with iron and an enormous closet with a safe. The bathroom a very nice size with a shower and bathtub (jacuzzi).

What I liked most was our outside terrace with chairs and tables where we could enjoy ocean view.

In the morning we enjoyed decent food with a nice breeze from the ocean.

We were not much into swimming in cold ocean water, so we decided to enjoy pool area. The pool itself was big enough for a nice swim, it was also beautifully designed with the direct access to the pool bar, changing rooms and rest rooms.

Coming to such a tranquil place we wanted to relax as much as possible, without going anywhere in the town of Mombasa. That is why we didn't use the service of daily excursions provided by the Resort, which actually looked very appealing and interesting:

- Mombasa City Tour (Old Town, Fort Jesus, Mama Ngina Drive);

- Marine park visit;

- visit to the nature park;

- swimming with dolphins at Shimoni wassini;

- playing golf at Vipingo Ridge, Nyali, or Mombasa Golf Clubs at discounted rate;

- Malindi tour including marine park and falconry.
